RAGNAR RELAY 2010

Crazy to think that the one goal I had for this pregnancy has come and gone. I went back and forth on if I should do this race, I backed out once, and then got back on and continued with the training to run my 12 miles. The morning came and it still seemed crazy that I was finally going to run this race. I was the second runner with a 3.6 mile uphill run. I knew it was uphill but man was that a hill. It just kept going. A few times I thought I was going to have to stop and walk, but if you know me that isn't in my nature. I finished the full thing running and was so glad to be done.
Then I was able to sit back and relax and cheer the other girls on. It was so fun to send a runner off, catch up and cheer them on and then get ready to send another one off. My second run didn't happen until about 10:30pm Friday night. I was running another 3.5 mile run but this time it was along the highway, pitch black out and the only thing that was around were the semi trucks flying passed me, my ipod and my cool reflector vest and head lamp. It was such a fun run just because you got a bit of energy just because you wanted to get the run over with as quick as you could because you were all alone the whole time.
My whole van loved this leg of the race. We all got done and loved the excitement from the run. But as our last girl finished her leg of the race at about 3:30 am  we got word that a runner was hit and the race was being stopped. It put quite a damper on things. We all just wanted to go home. We got word about 5:30am that the race was going to start again at 7:30 and that because we had to miss those 6 legs of the relay we were going to switch a few things up.
A few of us were able to sleep until that point. The other van took our last leg as their second and we met back up with them around noon, to finish the last 30 miles of the race.
By this point we are all sleep deprived and ready to get home. The excitement of the race picked back up a bit after the bad news that we got about the other runner, but it was still hard to find the enjoyment of the whole thing.
One of the highlights was being able to be all together as a team as we ran the last 1/2 mile into the finish line and say we had finished. At this point a lot of us said that we did it and wont do it again.
After a good nights sleep and a few days to think about it, I think we are all ready to maybe give it another try. We want to be able to have the full experience. And even more so me, maybe next time I wont be 6 months pregnant.
We were all sad to hear that the young senior from Brophy passed away on Tuesday. What a sad thing to happen when it was suppose to be something fun.
Here are a few pictures that were taken. This also helped me for sure to look back and see all the good times that we had.

This is one of the fun things, decorating your vans and cars. Our team name was "FOR THE RUN OF IT"
This was the best. we were driving up to Prescott and we wanted to take a picture. Right as 3 was said to take the picture the driver jerked the car... the end result was this!!!

Poor Amanda she had to work the night before until 6:30am. we left at 7:15am and she was the first runner!!! She tried to sleep in the car, but with cow bells and horns and cheering and what not I don't think she really slept until 5:30am on Saturday.
this is what we got to run through. It was such a pretty day.
Yes this became my best friend for the 2 days. I tried not to drink too much, but even if I didn't drink my mind would see one and I had to go. The joys of being pregnant and trying to run.
this is how cool we all looked running our second leg of the race during the night.

We were shocked and saddened to hear about that young runner's death.
And..as for you! Holy Cow! We need to stop being pregnant at the same time, because I get way too jealous. Of course, I'd probably never have the ambition to run pregnant, but...I found out about your race the same week I was diagnosed with my usual gestation diabetes and gestational hypertension and was put on the "diet" and on "modified bedrest." If I could do an 8th of what you do pregnant, I'd think I was wonderwoman. I'm not sure what that makes you. I guess wonder woman and 7 other super heroes combined!
